When planning the power going to your kitchen, plan ahead a little for possible future expansions. A little planning ahead can save tons of headaches later down the road. For example, if you are considering putting an island in the kitchen in at a later date, it is wise to run wires to the general area so it is easy to hook up the power when you do decide to go ahead.
Most homes these days have finished basements, making it a larger and more involved job to do extra electrical work. If existing wiring needs to be changed, it may be necessary to cut into some drywall, which makes repair work a large task after the electrical is done. For houses with unfinished basements or drop-ceilings, future electrical work is relatively easy.
Also plan to have heavy power-drawing appliances on separate circuits. A little forward planning can help prevent the breakers tripping on a regular basis. Appliances you might want to consider putting on separate breakers: toaster oven, microwave, dishwasher, fridge, etc. Ranges are usually on a separate circuit already, since they require a larger breaker.
So whenever possible, keep long term electrical planning in mind. It’s much easier than waiting until the last minute when it may cause a lot of extra work.
