Corian is the name of a product made by Dupont, a respected name across the globe. Corian is a solid surface material used to make countertops, sinks and backsplashes.
Non-Porous Surface
Corian countertops are durable surfaces which are non porous. Being non porous is a distinct advantage over materials such as granite or marble. The material will resist even tough stains. And there is no need to ever seal a Corian counter. Easy maintenance is one definite selling point for these counters.
Three Types of Finishes
There are three types of counter finishes to choose from: high gloss, semi gloss, and matte/satin. The most common finish is the matte/satin. Corian sinks are only available in matte/satin.
If the surface becomes dull or scratched over time, it is possible to refinish the counters. This is another definite advantage of the material for counters. Because the material is uniform throughout the counter, it can be polished down to remove scratches. Professional refinishing services are available if the area you need to treat is large. Many helpful hints on how to deal with small scratches are available on the Dupont website.
Seamless
Because there are no seams to deal with, cleaning is much easier than other materials with seams. Dirt has no place to collect thus preventing annoying problems.
Huge Array of Colors and Patterns
With over 130 colors to choose from, the chances of finding something to suit your kitchen are very high. The edges of the counters have many finish styles to choose from. You are not restricted to a smooth edge. You can choose from beveled to Spanish style, to bullnose, half bullnose and classic. There are around 18 styles of edge possibilities.
Heat Resistant
Another benefit is heat resistance. Although it is not recommended to place hot pots or other objects onto the counters, the surface will resist some heat.
Counters aren’t the only product made from Corian. You can also find sinks, shower bases, shower walls and more.
